Keep Consistent:
Presentation

estimated reading time: 2 min

Consistency in presentation means that you’re always showing the same face, so to speak. Of course you’re going to look different day to day, and you might tweak your presentation depending on the user. The point is, you don’t want to look wildly different or share content that varies greatly in quality. Deliver the user with a consistent experience so that they return to you, knowing what to expect every time.

Ensure your profile and feed pictures accurately reflect what users will see when you send them content or get on a video call. Do not heavily edit or use intense filters, including AI editors and Snapchat filters. You can absolutely touch up blemishes, blur the background, and adjust the exposure, contrast, etc. Again, the point is that the user should see the same person, whether they’re browsing your feed, unlocking your content, or video chatting with you.

Though you may not always make content and take calls in the same environment, do you best to ensure quality pictures and videos. A user will be disappointed if all your profile pics are well lit and colorful but you answer a video call in the dark or the picture quality is blurry or grainy.

It’s not all about visuals—you should maintain a consistent demeanor and energy in your interactions with your users. With the same user, don’t go from being soft and sweet to short and curt. If you’re having a bad day or feeling overwhelmed (maybe you just had a particularly exhausting call), take a breather and reset. You’re not doing yourself—or your users—any favors by slogging through and letting it show.
